Embracing Growth: The Women's Opportunity Center Journey

Hey there, fabulous souls! Imagine a time when it all started in a woman's kitchen back in '79—yup, that's the birthplace of the incredible Women's Opportunity Center (WOC). Fast forward to today, and we've grown into a force that's uplifted nearly 20,000 individuals and counting each year. Let's take a stroll through our journey.

WHO WE ARE

At the Women's Opportunity Center, we're not just about work-readiness programs—we're about transforming lives. Our approach isn't just about skills; it's about building dreams. We're all about creating economic and personal self-sufficiency, empowering our participants to provide for themselves and their families while weaving a vibrant community.

We get it. Commitment isn't always easy. That's why our short-term training programs are designed to cater to your needs and schedule. We're here to make those career goals happen—no matter what.

Our History: From Kitchen Tales to Empowerment Saga

Picture this: a local group huddled in a kitchen in '79, helping homemakers step into the workforce post-divorce, separation, or widowhood. That's where it all began. From those humble beginnings, we've soared high. The WOC became part of the statewide Displaced Homemakers Program, blossoming into 13 centers across New York State.

Then came the pivotal moments. Incorporation as a not-for-profit in '95, snagging our current building in '98, and a second facility gifted by the Durham family in '02. As we evolved into a multi-service powerhouse for employment resources, the name changed to Women's Opportunity Center—reflecting our growth and commitment.

Partnerships and Impact

We're not solo flyers; we're in this together. Partnering with Tompkins County Workforce and United Way, we've spread our wings wider. Your donations? They're not just generous; they're fuel for our mission.

Our programs? Oh, they're the real deal. From job search workshops to essential computer skills and career development, we're in the business of turning goals into reality.

Syracuse: Our Expanding Reach

In '85, the Displaced Homemaker Program sprouted in Syracuse, evolving into the RLS Career Center. When RLS closed its doors in 2005, we swooped in. Since then, we've been the heartbeat of economic independence for thousands in Onondaga County.

So here's to growth, to transformation, and to the unstoppable force that is the Women's Opportunity Center. Join us in crafting futures, breaking barriers, and writing tales of empowerment—one kitchen at a time.

Together, let's make the impossible, possible. Because here at WOC, nothing is insurmountable.

Join the journey. Join the movement. Join us at WOC!
