But for many families, the cost of formalwear can be overwhelming. Dresses that may only be worn once can cost hundreds of dollars, and too often those garments end up sitting unused in closets—or eventually discarded.
At the Opportunity Boutique, we believe beautiful clothing deserves more than one moment.
That’s the spirit behind our Stand & Sparkle campaign.
Giving Dresses a Second Story
Through Stand & Sparkle, the community is invited to donate formal dresses and special occasion wear so that these garments can continue their journey.
Instead of being worn once and forgotten, a dress can become part of another memory. Another milestone. Another celebration.
A gown that once marked one young person’s prom night might now help someone else walk into their own special moment with confidence.
It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact:

We welcome donations including:
• Prom and formal dresses
• Bridesmaid dresses
• Mother-of-the-bride dresses
• Jewelry and accessories
• Handbags and evening bags
• Formal shoes
Each piece helps create the possibility for someone else to stand and sparkle.
Sustainability Meets Community
Formalwear is one of the most single-use categories in fashion. Many dresses are worn once and then stored away indefinitely.
By collecting and redistributing these garments, Stand & Sparkle helps:
• extend the life of beautiful clothing
• reduce textile waste
• make important life moments more accessible
• strengthen community connections
This is slow fashion in action—where clothing continues to be valued, worn, and appreciated long after its first outing.
Ways to Get Involved
Not everyone has a dress to donate—but there are many ways to help make Stand & Sparkle possible.
Community members can support the campaign by:
• Donating formalwear — dresses, shoes, jewelry, and accessories
• Sponsoring a Sparkle — helping cover the cost of a dress for someone who needs one. Donate here.
• Sharing the campaign on social media to help spread the word
• Volunteering at the boutique, helping steam dresses, organize racks, or prepare items for the event
• Posting flyers in the community to help reach more families who may benefit
• Organizing formalwear drives at local colleges, where students can donate dresses and accessories that might otherwise stay tucked away in closets
College formalwear drives are especially powerful because many students have dresses worn only once—for proms, formals, and special events—and those pieces can become someone else’s moment to shine.
The Heart of the Opportunity Boutique
The Opportunity Boutique is more than a place to shop secondhand.
Every purchase, donation, and volunteer effort helps support programs that create opportunity for women in our community—whether they are rebuilding their lives, entering the workforce, or pursuing new goals.
Stand & Sparkle is one more way the community comes together to support one another.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing a piece of clothing can do is help someone stand a little taller and feel ready to shine.
How You Can Help
If you have formalwear tucked away in your closet, consider donating it to the Stand & Sparkle campaign at the Opportunity Boutique. Donations accepted Tuesday to Friday 10-5.
Or if you'd like to support the program in another way, consider sponsoring a sparkle, volunteering your time, organizing a campus drive, or sharing the campaign with your community.
Your support helps create unforgettable moments for someone else.
And just like the pieces we see every day in the boutique, each one becomes part of another story.
